Interactive mapping
A tool for identifying players in the raw earth sector in Europe
Thanks to the collaborative platform gogocarto , the association is attempting to identify the various players in the raw earth sector - cob and clay - across geographical Europe.
To do this, we have cross-referenced and compiled various bibliographic sources which mention craftsmen, architects, associations, training centres, universities or public institutions which promote the construction practices of raw earth in Europe but also the actors of the Breton network of which we are a part.
Some notable buildings, including contemporary architecture that has won awards such as the Terra Awards, are also mentioned on this map.
Finally, the colored areas representing the cob or wattle and daub regions are taken from the book Terra Europae - Earthen Architecture in the European Union, published in 2011. This scientific publication made it possible to establish a map of the different construction techniques of raw earth within the European Union (2011) from which we extracted the data for cob and wattle and daub. We regularly update the different areas as we read, particularly the non-EU areas that were not represented in Terra Europae.
In order to enrich this still incomplete map, we invite you to enrich it here !
